The extension has been designed to complete Oaklands in a manner that is informed by the building itself. The scale, mass and proportion of the existing northern section of the main house has been duplicated and mirrored around a line of symmetry to form the historically anticipated building composition.
A contemporary extension was designed, it was felt that the aesthetic of the new extension should not attempt to be a pastiche of the original house. A further extension which took its clues from the architectural form of the original house was not seen as appropriate.
